Acne “no” marks

Research indicates that approximately 80% of individuals in the age group of 11 to 30 years suffer from some form of acne. Acne, if not treated in time, leads to acnemarkspigmentation and scars. Early intervention using simple treatments can help remove or lighten the marks.

Exfoliation
Exfoliation helps to shed outer damaged skin layer and exposes fresh skin. Avoid use of physical exfoliators like scrubs with active acne lesions. Chemical exfoliators are less irritating, penetrate deeper and give faster results. Creams containing 6% glycolic acid for face and 12% for other body parts help in overall complexion improvement. Over the counter products containing tretinoin also gives good results. Apply these creams at night after washing your face.

Sun protection
Application of sunscreen prevents acne marks formation and darkening of the existing ones. Apply it thrice a day with a gap of 3 hours.

Skin lightening agents
Over the counter skin lightening creams containing vitamin C, kojic acid and azelaic acid give good results for light and soft marks. For very dark and rigid marks, creams with triple combination of hydroquinone, tretinoin and mometasone furoate can be used.

Nature’s therapy
If your marks are very light and have tendency to fade away with time, you can use these natural remedies for quick improvement. Take lemon juice or milk with honey and apply over face. Leave it for 20 minutes and splash cold water. Do it once a week. Potato slices and tomato juice are good for skin lightening as well.
