Sugar rapidly breaks down into glucose causing an insulin spike in the body. This produces enzymes, which disintegrate skin-supporting proteins like elastin and collagen. Through a process called glycation, digested sugar gets attached to collagen promoting skin ageing and wrinkle formation. Dehydration produced by sugar makes the skin look dull and lifeless.
Avoid all kinds of chocolates and desserts containing white or brown sugar. Foods like soft drinks, canned fruit juices, packaged snacks, pastas and pizzas have high glycemic index. They quickly get converted into simple sugars on digestion.
Consume plenty of water after having any of the above foodstuffs. Since the body tries to excrete the glucose through urine, added water consumption can help.
